Introduction: 3D Printed Glow in the Dark Watch

I created a 3D-printed watch that also has the ability to glow in the dark. I think a 3D-printed watch could be pretty useful. It allows for fun and intricate designs that could be hard to achieve through traditional methods of watch making, and it is also pretty inexpensive and durable. This means you wouldn't have to sacrifice strength or much money to make it. It's also a pretty sustainable choice. This watch is not only unique but stylish; it's a pretty fun glowing fashion accessory.

Supplies

  1. Cad Software, I used SolidWorks to make my watch
  2. A 3D printer
  3. Paint, you could use any color, but I chose a glow-in-the-dark blue paint
  4. Super glue

Step 1: Designing the Watch

The first thing I did was design each of the watches parts, which mostly consisted of two parts: The timepiece body, and the chain link. For The timepiece body I sketched out a circle with my desired diameter, of 1.5 inches, and then I extruded it 1.2 inches. I then sketched out a body that the chain link would be able to go through so I could attach the body to the chain link. After that I added other minor details like the watch's hand and the dial. After I had to make the chain link, I first sketched the shape of a single chain link which was 1.2 inches tall and .7 inches wide. After that I used extruded cuts to make holes that I could out stick poles through to hold the chain links together. After all that I made an assembly to join each of the parts I made to ensure smooth and proper alignment.

Step 2: Printing and Assembling

Now that the watch was fully designed it was time to bring it to life with 3D printing! First I converted my files to STL and then printed them. After printing my watch and making sure to get rid of all the supports I put together my chain link using a touch of glue. Then I slid the timepiece in and was finished with assembling, and happy with the design, and knowing it all worked together I moved on to the next step painting.

Step 3: Painting

To end it all off I painted the watch with a glow in the dark paint for a fun little last touch, and after this you've successfully designed, printed, and painted your own custom watch with a fun glowing touch. I think this project showcases not only the power of 3D modeling but also the versatility of 3D printing for a creating unique wearable technology. You can feel free to customize your own watch further by experimenting with different colors and designs.
